Don’t Wait for an Emergency to Wish You Knew CPR!
In Lagos, when emergencies happen, there’s rarely time to wait for professional responders. Most times, people around you become the first help available — family, neighbors, coworkers, or even strangers.
During one of our CPR classes, a woman shared a story that silenced the room.
She explained that during her twin babies’ first birthday celebration, one of the children suddenly started choking while eating. At first, everyone panicked. Some people shouted for water, others wanted to rush the baby to the hospital immediately. But she remembered the infant choking relief technique she had learned during a CPR training session.
Instead of panicking, she acted.
Within moments, the object was dislodged, and her baby started breathing normally again.
She said something afterward that stayed with many of us:
“If I didn’t know what to do that day, I honestly don’t know what the outcome would have been.”
That’s the reality of emergencies. They rarely happen in hospitals. They happen at home, in traffic, at work, during celebrations, and in everyday moments when no doctor is nearby.
CPR and first aid training are not just certifications. They are practical life skills that give ordinary people the confidence to act when every second matters.
You may never expect to use it. But one day, someone around you might need you to know it.
